When a Onewheel Made Me Realize I Already Had the Best Thing

June 23, 2026

Okay so full transparency here – I was saving up my money for a Onewheel for like forever. And then I got one for Christmas, which was honestly the best surprise ever. For those who don't know, it's basically a motorized skateboard situation but it's only got one wheel and it's insanely fun. I've been riding it around the neighborhood basically every single day.

But here's the thing – while I was saving for that Onewheel, I actually started my sourdough business. I was like, I will never do this, I will never start a business. But then I was just baking sourdough anyway because I love it, and people kept asking me to make them loaves, and my dad helped me figure out the business side of things. Next thing I knew, I had customers and I was actually making money. Rise & Grind was born.

So getting the Onewheel after basically a year of sourdough baking made me realize something kind of wild – I'd already found something way cooler than what I was saving for in the first place. My dad actually laughed pretty hard when I came to him saying I wanted to figure out how to make the Onewheel work with the business. He was like, "Easton, you can't exactly balance a Dutch oven full of dough on that thing." He's got a point.

But seriously, it made me realize how much my schedule is locked in around baking. I wake up early before we do homeschool stuff to check on my starter and feed Yeaston – that's my starter's name, by the way. Easton plus yeast equals Yeaston. My mom actually took a sourdough class before I started baking, and I was like, whoa, I could do that too. She's the one who helps me with all the actual baking now, and she keeps me on track with the timing. It made me realize I really could keep learning and getting better at this. I have stretch-and-folds happening at specific times. My bulk fermentation windows are tight, especially in Vegas where the heat speeds everything up.

The Onewheel has actually made me more aware of how much I care about all of this. I could've easily just been like okay I'm gonna ride around instead of baking this week but I didn't want to. My customers are counting on me. Yeaston is counting on me. And honestly, I love the ritual of it all too much.

So now I've got this weird system where I do my morning baking stuff, then I might sneak in some Onewheel time in the afternoon if the fermentation is chill. It's honestly kind of funny how getting something super fun made me realize that I already had something I actually loved doing. The Onewheel is cool, but there's something different about pulling a perfectly scored loaf out of the oven with that amazing oven spring and a dark, crackly crust.
